Welcome to Bistro Badia! I am Rafik and I am really happy that you are here.

It’s all about Lebanese cuisine – or rather: it’s all about my family’s kitchen. Ever since I was halfway upright as a child, I loved to hang out in my mother’s kitchen. On the one hand I did this because it always had such an incredibly delicious smell and I was a gourmand – on the other hand because I was incredibly fascinated by how much devotion my mother used to create the tastiest meals out of some sometimes funny or boring looking ingredients.

My three siblings and I were not the quietest children, but somehow she managed to dance around us in the kitchen until the food was ready and our bellies were full. The nicest thing was always when she gave us a little taste just before she started serving. If we were satisfied, the food was served. If we were not satisfied, we still had to eat it. 😉

By the way, my mother’s name is Badia – and besides her passion for cooking and good food, I owe her so many other things. When I had the idea to start a food blog, it was immediately clear to me that it would be about my family’s dishes – and that the blog would bear my mother’s name.

You can expect many Lebanese recipes here over time. I learned almost all the recipes from Badia – and she learned almost all from her mother or siblings. Family recipes have certainly changed from generation to generation and will continue to do so this time. Therefore there will be recipes here from time to time, which I learned from my mother, but reinterpreted for the fun of cooking.

My goal is to create a very personal food blog that leaves room for a few personal memories and stories in addition to delicious traditional Lebanese recipes.

Now I wish you a lot of fun with my blog. Make yourself at home.
